ADA Open House at the Mile High Independent Living Center

by Ody Allen
(Denver, Co. USA)

The Mile High Independent Living Center (MHILC) is hosting an Open House to celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the American's with Disabilities Act, which changed a part of our great nation for the better.

"The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. ADA is a law that was enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1990. Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) authored the bill and was its chief sponsor in the Senate. Harkin delivered part of his introduction speech in sign language so his deaf brother could understand. It was signed into law on July 26, 1990, by President George H. W. Bush, and later amended with changes effective January 1, 2009."

In celebration of this extraordinary event, the Mile High Independent Living Center would like to invite any and everyone in the community interested in more information regarding the ADA and to check out the services the Mile High Independent Living Center offers to the public. MHILC serves most of the Denver Metro Area and many of it's neighboring counties!

We believe that individuals with disabilities deserve equal rights to live, work, and take part in their communities; are the best experts on their needs for independent living and can have their needs best met through consumer-driven advocacy.

The four core services provided by Centers for Independent Living are, Individual and Systems Advocacy, Information and Referral, Peer Counseling, as well as Independent Living Skills and Training. Though this is not an exhaustive list of our services, those are the four core services we offer.

SO COME ONE COME ALL TO THE ADA OPEN HOUSE EVENT AT THE MILE HIGH INDEPENDENT LIVING CENTER LOCATED ON THE 16th STREET MALL, 110 16th St. #504 Denver, Co. 80202 from 1pm-3pm on Wednesday July 23rd 2014!
